MLB Baseball Betting: Cliff Lee Takes Mound for Phillies on Saturday

Cliff Lee, the venerable pitcher and reason that the Philadelphia Phillies are the big favorites in the MLB Baseball Betting book to win the NL this season, takes the mound on Saturday against the Houston Astros.

All eyes will definitely be on Lee who turned down a ton of dough from numerous suitors in order to garner a spot on a rotation that boasts Roy Halladay, Cole Hamels and Roy Oswalt.  Besides previewing the Houston versus Philadelphia game on Saturday, I also preview San Francisco versus the L.A. Dodgers and St. Louis versus San Diego. Check out the previews below.

April 2 – MLB National League

** Records and stats not counting Friday games.

- San Francisco Giants vs. Los Angeles Dodgers
Where:  Dodger Stadium, Los Angeles, California
When:  4:10 pm EST
Starting Pitchers:  SF M.Cain-R, LA T.Lilly-L

BetUS Sportsbook MLB Baseball Odds Pick:  San Francisco moneyline

Analysis:  Lilly got everybody going in SoCal last year with that awesome start where he couldn’t be hit. The underrated Lilly figures to be overrated by the MLB baseball betting odds makers on Saturday because the Dodgers take on the rival Giants at home.  The truth is that I like Lilly to pitch a very good game on April 2 but Matt Cain is one of the best pitchers in the National League right now.  Cain pitched 21 1/3 innings in the post-season last year, and yielded only 1 earned run and only 13 hits.  The 26-year-old Cain should receive Cy Young Award talk this season.  The Dodgers don’t stand a chance on Saturday against him, in my opinion.

- San Diego Padres vs. St. Louis Cardinals
Where:  Busch Stadium, St. Louis, Missouri
When:  4:10 pm EST
Starting Pitchers:  SD C.Richard-L, STL J.Westbrook-R

BetUS Sportsbook MLB Baseball Odds Pick:  San Diego moneyline

Analysis:  I’m picking San Diego on the baseball odds moneyline to beat the St. Louis Cardinals on Saturday, but, in reality, this game could go either way.  Clayton Richard wasn’t very good towards the end of the 2010 MLB Season when he went ahead and posted a 4.30 ERA and a 1.50 WHIP.  Westbrook had a better 2010 than Richard, but he’s not a good enough pitcher for me to back him and the Cardinals on the moneyline in this contest.  The Padres will be going off at better odds because they’re the road team. I have to take those better MLBbetting odds because I don’t see any advantage that St. Louis has in this matchup.

- Houston Astros vs. Philadelphia Phillies
Where:  Citizens Bank Park, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
When:  7:05 pm EST
Starting Pitchers:  HOU W.Rodriguez-L, PHI C.Lee-L

BetUS Sportsbook MLB Baseball Odds Pick:  Houston moneyline

Analysis:  Is there any doubt that Cliff Lee is going to step onto the mound on Saturday and dominate the Houston Astros?  Okay, maybe there’s a small doubt, and that small doubt is in the form of Wandy Rodriguez who posted a 2.11 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 9.70 strikeouts per 9 innings in 14 starts after the All-Star break last season.  If Wando R. has a good day on the mound against the Philly pitchers than Lee, who isn’t always the lock down effective dude like he was in the ALCS in 2010, could start the season with an “L” instead of a “W”.  The online betting baseball odds are definitely going to be sweet on Rodriguez and the Astros, that’s for sure.
